MRT is much cheaper.
Ard 2 - 3 dollars, but u need to know which street you're going because geylang has 40 over "lorongs"(aka streets) which spread across 3 MRT stations, Kallang, Aljunied and Paya Lebar MRT stations.
Taxi : $2.40 flat rate, $3 for remote location
so its $5+ once you get in. it will probably cost you more than $10 to get to geylang.

Take the SMRT. Definitely cheaper without the airport surcharge of $3 too for cab.

SMRT is cheaper than taxis. Compared to Japan, where I live, Singapore taxis are relatively priced. I think they're rather cheap actually. But, they'll be more expensive than the MRT.
