For pure ethanol, you need a high compression engine 13:1 to 16:1 For a blend, you just need to adjust your timing and make sure that all your seal components are not damaged by exposure to ethanol. All cars made after 1985 can run 10% to 30% ethanol with no problem.

No you really do not need to do anything to your car's engine, Gasoline already has a 10% mixture of ethanol as required by federal law.
