During the recent 4th of July holiday, I clearly noticed that the Jumping-Jacks were much smaller and thinner, and lasted one crappy second. When I was a kid, they were bigger and better and lasted several seconds longer.

Sparklers are shorter and thinner.
Firecrackers are a joke now.
Bottle rockest fizzle out so fast and they "opo". No more BOOMs!
Snakes don't stay lit

Am I the only one who notices this?

Yes, they have gotten smaller. Not only because it saves money, therefore more profit for the manufacturers, but also because some of the bigger "booms" have been outlawed because they were classified as being too dangerous.

You are DEFINITELY right. I am glad i am not the only one who noticed. I live on a high floor (22nd) and I could barely see them this year. This so sucks. I have this theory that all holidays are going to sh**. Fourth of July you have to actually go down to the pier right in front to get any effect whereas years ago it wasn't neccessary.

I notice every year that the 'legal' fireworks change and i don't mean for the good. They are modified every year to be safer, which can only mean 'not as good'. I remember when the Whistling Pete's used to be louder and longer. I remember when it was easier to hammer the bottom tip so they can pop at the end...now its nearly impossible to do that.

The legal ones are. After all, the politicians must protect us from ourselves.
