You can't just sell an invention.

You need an attorney, patent, copyright, trademark just as starters.

Then an engineer and production company to produce a demo let alone the item.

To take an item from thought or home-made to reality is normally around $150,000 minimum and at least 1 year of hard work.

Good luck!

If you plant to sell an invention you must know at least how to spell "where". First of all, you dont even say wtf your invention is. Second, havn't you ever heard of a patent? go uspto.com for more information. I doubt you'll get rich, but goodluck.

If you dont get it by now, here's a summary. You must find which places your invention can be used. Is it for machinery, does it belong in the office? Answer your own question and then find out which companies would be interested in your so-called invention.

Before you get to excited, you need a lawyer (who can help you get the patent legit) and then you need some money for the patent. After all the paperwork is filed and if your invention is original, then you have a patent.

Once you have the patent, your safe from the evil schemes of large coporate companies. Sell your invention in the area where it can be used and then the checks come in.

To protect an original invention OR a significant improvement to an existing product, a patent would be filed. Here's the USPTO's definition: http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/doc/general/index.html#patent

NOLO is a great, free informational site. Also, be sure to read what else the USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) has to say about patents.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
