I thought they all were???!!!
My wife left...my dog died...and my truck don't run no more
Elvis - Old Shep
words & music by Foley - Westpar)
When I was a lad
And old Shep was a pup
Over hills and meadows we'd stray
Just a boy and his dog
We were both full of fun
We grew up together that way
I remember the time at the old swimmin' hole
When I would have drowned beyond doubt
But old Shep was right there
To the rescue he came
He jumped in and then pulled me out
As the years fast did roll
Old Shep he grew old
His eyes were fast growing dim
And one day the doctor looked at me and said
I can do no more for him Jim
With hands that were trembling
I picked up my gun
And aimed it at Shep's faithful head
I just couldn't do it
I wanted to run
I wish they would shoot me instead
He came to my side
And looked up at me
And laid his old head on my knee
I had struck the best friend that a man ever had
I cried so I scarcely could see
Old Shep he has gone
Where the good doggies go
And no more with old Shep will I roam
But if dogs have a heaven
There's one thing I know
Old Shep has a wonderful home

There are so many of sad country songs out there, and they
just want to make you cry, but i have to agree with Lissa about
the whiskey song. When i first heard that song it really got to
my heart, its really some sad song.

He Stopped Loving Her Today
by George Jones
Also Galveston by Glenn Campbell
It's about Vietnam, very sad. It's so old, you probably never heard it. Here is the lyric:
Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea winds blowin'
I still see her dark eyes glowin'
She was 21 when I left Galveston
Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea waves crashing
While I watch the cannons flashing
I clean my gun and dream of Galveston
I still see her standing by the water
Standing there lookin' out to sea
And is she waiting there for me?
On the beach where we used to run
Galveston, oh Galveston, I am so afraid of dying
Before I dry the tears she's crying
Before I watch your sea birds flying in the sun
At Galveston, at Galveston

not exactly country, but there is no reason you wouldn't love this sad song.
needle in the hay - elliott smith
elliott smith is an amazing singer/songwriter that took his life october 2003 by stabbing himself in the heart.
the song needle in the hay was played in the scene of the royal tenenbaums when richie(luke wilson) tried to commit suicide.
wonderful movie as well, that is, if you have not yet seen it.
