NO! We need to re-structure the healthcare system so that it is more efficient. I don't think people who have money deserve better care. We are all equally valuable and therefore deserve the same medical care. Unfortunately, the way the system is run right now, is not working. Our best and brightest flee to the US so that they can make more money. Wait lists are incredibly long, and GP's are abusing the system. Something does have to be done, but I don't think a 2-tier system is the way to go. The USA has a 2-tier system, and they actually pay more taxes for healthcare then we do!

Unless you're in the military, it already is private.
Universal healthcare is another animal. Every country that has it, says it's OK unless your old or have a really serious problem. Why? Because care is rationed...not enough care givers for everyone. There are waiting lists. The elderly are placed at the back in favor of the young...that is just the way it is. The idea sounds good, but the "devil is in the details." This is why many international folk flock to the US for care...they get it when they need it with money, and the care is excellent. I kinda like that.

it already is privatized! the opposite of privatized healthcare would be a socialist healthcare system where it is run entirely by the government.

If you mean, "should we abolish Medicare and make it completely privatized?" -- then yes. Its a blatant violation of every American's freedoms for the government to forcibly take his money, and then tell him what type of health care he has the right to receive.
And, those of you who think everyone is "entitled" to health care, take a moment to consider who must provide it. If I have a right to health care, then a doctor has no right to refuse treatment and a drug company has no right to withhold its medications. In essence, by claiming that someone can be "entitled" to health care, you are declaring that providers are his slaves.

We never had anything but private health care until Medicare was passed, except for the truly very very poor who got some supportive care.
Why was Medicare passed?

Yes we should never have socialized (nationalized) it: medicare, Medicaid... It is heavily socialized and we are all getting loaded down b/c of that. Take one stupid example: HIPA. How many times must you sign a form acknowledging that the provider won't share you're medical files? Take HIPA, multiply it by 1000 b/c of all of the other regulations tied to socialism & welfare.
Let us out -- or at least let me & my doctor out!
