I was induced with my first. Labour lasted 14 hours afterwards but once I had the epidural it wasn't bad at all. The idea of the epidural frightened me to death but omg is it worth it! I found this out when my second child was born far too quickly for an epidural to be administered (she arrived in less than 2 hours from beginning of labour to end!). All they had time to give me was Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) but it hardly did anything at all for the pain. I would trade the 14 hours with an epidural in a second for the 2 hours without. Just my experience but with my third on the way, epidural all the way this time!

It depends on your level of pain relief, granted I had my last child 6 years ago but as far as I know the epidural is the most effective, most doctors can dial down the dose if you want to actually feel the child birth part, if you are wanting total pain relief or have no tolerance for pain then go with the epidural, if you can handle pain then go with just the iv method, most times you can opt for the epidural later if you decide, unless it's to close to the end....I had the epidural with both my kids and I love the epidural man!!!!

Yes. Discuss it with your doctor at your next visit, but there are many different i.v. pain meds that can be administered during labor.

You can have pain meds pumped into your iv. That is what I used and It worked very well for me.

yeah they have narcotics- that work wonders- however some docs don't like giving them- cause they have to give the baby something to counter it when they are born
