Given the fact that women themselves were once considered legally not fully a person (the property of her husband, metaphysically by the catholic church), and given the fact that women were once treated as the weaker of species and taken advantage of physically and continue to be, why do they now turn on a living being that itself could be described in those ways. Just wondering.

Because it's often a nice, convenient, legal way to excuse themselves of their accountability for a mistake in judgement.

Don't get me wrong - the men who were involved in that "judgement call" often support it to excuse themselves from their obligations as well.

I was once opposed to abortion and now I support it. When I became a mother 4 years ago, I realized what a profound responsibility parenting is. People who can't handle it shouldn't do it. I was 31, married, and financially secure with my own home and was totally unprepared for motherhood. I can't imagine doing it as a single teenager with no money or skills.

I do beleive the law needs to change. Abortion is legal up to 24 weeks (at least in Massachusetts where I live). I find that disgusting. It should be changed to 12 weeks. Also, having struggled to concieve for several years, I think every effort should be made to encourage adoption.

It saddens me to say this but the bottom line is, I hate abortion, but I'd rather see a baby aborted than be born into a situation that will only cause him a lifetime of pain and virtually guarantee a repeated pattern of neglect for generations to come.

I work with and see so many children whose parents didn't get abortions but instead abuse or neglect them. I think there are too many people who shouldn't have children and yet they do. I'm in support of abortion because I see the end result of what an unwanted child becomes...some of the stories I hear about these children would have you really think that they were better off not being born. I feel that with so many children that I see..they will all grow up someday and be messed up adults.

It saddens me to hear how people who are against abortion seem so judgemental and so one sided..but I guess they have a right to their own opinion just as I do..but somehow I don't think they truly see the other ugly side of what happens to these children and their lives.

Most women just want the right to choose. I would never have an abortion and strongly support not having them, but women do not want anyone passing a law outlawing abortion because of special circumstances, health problems, rape, incest, things of this nature. I do not support abortion, I hate it, but I do not like the thought of a law being passed that legally bans it, I do however support a law that if a child is a minor that the parents should be notified before any abortion is done on their child.

Because a women shouldn't have to live with a reminder each day if she was raped of that action. Also some people are not emotionally ready to have a child. Or they could not have the money to raise a child at the time. There are so many reasons why women support abortion.

Because there are a lot of women out there that care more for partying and furthering their own goals than letting a child live. Those women that go and get abortions are just slutty baby-killers that need to keep their legs closed. If they don't want kids, then they shouldn't be out sleeping around. I have absolutely no sympathy for the girl that gets herself knocked up, then has an abortion.

There is a lot of hatred in these answers. All I know is, I don't get to choose what other women do with their bodies. It isn't my place to judge others, and I would hope that others would extend the same courtesy to me. The reasons for abortion vary, and most have already been mentioned -- but ultimately, I trust women to make the choice that is right for them.

Liberation. Over the past 20 years, women have been sold this idea that they should take charge of their bodies, including the right to kill and expel a living fetus.

Because of Planned Parenthood, the National Organization of Women, and many other liberal pro-choice groups, some women and political groups have bought into it. Now the politicos see it as a group of votes, just like NRA, just like organized labor.

the key word in that sentence was "once"
Not anymore Jack, we have rights and if weren't for so many men not sticking around to help raise the child we should have that choice as well.
Maybe if more men stuck around, we wouldn't have such a high abortion rate.

I only agree with abortion as a last resort if a female is raped. I hate the fact that some women use it freely as a form of birth control.
