These days 'taboo' seems a rather strong term. At its worst "intolerance" might be more appropriate.

I know from personal experience the African American community accepted Gays and Lesbians, but very superficially ... as long as those who were Gay or Lesbian remained quiet. Contradicting this attitude, at the same time the flamboyant 'queens' were not only accepted, they were embraced. They weren't "real men", after all. But the African American culture is changing as all things must eventually. We're beginning to see more tolerant, not necessarily accepting, attitudes towards the GLBT community, even going as far to quietly overlook intercultural relationships. For now. If ANY culture knows how to survive and survive well, it is the culture that was subjected to over 300 years of Amerikkkan Apartheid.

As long as the Republican far-right activist 'old guard' remain alive there will always be some type of cultural discrimination. But as they die off (some not as quickly as many of us would prefer), new, progressive, pro-active and infinitely more accepting -- not to be confused with 'tolerant' -- people will step into their shoes. It's already happening. Senator Barack Obama is one great example.
I predict, if he so chooses to run, that he will be our first African American president one day. Dynamic. Passionate. And painfully intelligent! (And he ain't bad lookin' either!)

Look in most high schools and you will see a wonderful blend of cultures, or 'races' if you prefer. The youth represent much more than a future. They will determine if we will all come together as ONE CULTURE. Just a decade ago, one wouldn't not have seen this beautiful blending.

With the advent of the world wide web, the change has begun. But there's still those few old, hate-filled and intolerant bigots (Hello, Mr. Bush, you pathetic piece of butt fungus) who continue to propagate intolerance, even hatred. But our world IS changing.

Regardless of how many smaller battles we lose on the way to total equality, we WILL win the battle against cultural and sexual bigotry on all levels and at all fronts. WE are the ones with the momentum.

The old guard (especially the old White guys), or what remains of them, is worried.

Best Wishes!

Well, unfortunately, old ways of thinking still persist somewhat. It goes back to the days when blacks were oppressed and seen as "less than" or "savages". Remember, it has only been fairly recently in history that black people have gained freedom and rights in a white nation. It's too bad that some people still view blacks as an inferior race. The media doesn't help either by always publishing reports of black crime, giving some the impression that all if not most blacks are criminals, ect. It's not taboo for everyone though- for those that are not prejudiced. Now, if you're referring to other black people that get angry when say a white woman sleeps with a black man, it also ties into what I just said somewhat. You see, some black people are also prejudiced and believe that black people should stick to their own race as far as sex is concerned. If they see a black with say, as white, they view it as a betrayal to their race because of all of the oppression, hate, ect. that was and still exists against them from whites.

Its hold-over racial prejudice.

I think the theory is this: Since the progeny may be either
the color of the mother or the father or a little bit of both, you
can no longer tell who came from what gene pool.

At that point, you get major hysteria about the so-called
"White blacks". That is, people who's skin is pretty fair
but who have black ancestry.

Since we all have the same ancestry, ultimately, its all
a bunch of hooey.

I did not know that it was taboo. That is only the opinion of a few. Attraction is what it is. People are like ice cream....why not try every flavor??

In the younger generations, its not. Some people just will not change. They were raised by racists and some of that still exists with them. I know b/c my grandfather and father are racist. But I put an end to it with my generation. I don't believe in black or white. blah blah. you could be yellow or purple for all I care. Its supposed to be about love and emotion. Not skin color

I had a black girlfriend once. Got glaring looks from everybody. She was the sweetest girl I evey knew. She just got out of prison for stabbing her other boyfriends wife in Chicago. She was so cool. She loved me for who I am. Then she decided to go back to her husband when I was visiting my wife and her wife. yes!

Society only sees black and white.. you know, black with black and white with white. It's sad that not everyone accepts that love is everywhere and doesn't care WHAT color skin or ethinc backgrounds people come from. We aren't in the dark ages anymore. This is the 21st Century and I know we should accept people for who they are and not judge people on their skin color. Honestly, who are we to judge? That's for God to do, not us.

I definitely think that it used to be in past years, but since the late 80's, 90's and maybe even the 70's, it is more acceptable. you know, people just do what they want these days.

I don't think it remains taboo when the black people are sexy and horny at the same time.
