Hoosiers is the icon movie. Coach Carter and Glory Road are newer classics. There are a lot more baseball movies because of the nostalgia of kids who are now adults who miss playing baseball and remember the good times. Sandlot, The Natural, Field of Dreams, and the like are of times gone by marked by the perfection of a good baseball game. Adults, unless they are in MLB, don't play baseball -- they play softball and miss the days of the fast pitch, so they are going to be drawn that way. Anyone can go out and shoot a ball at a basket, no matter how bad they are (they may not make it) so the nostalgia factor is not there. There are some good iconic football movies, (Rudy, Brian's Song), but the nostalgia is not as strong as baseball.

For basketball most will say Hoosiers, which was a really good movie but a bit too cliched and predictable for me. My vote would go to "Hoop Dreams"."Rudy" will get the majority of votes for football and they are well deserved. I watch it every time it's on cable. But I still get a kick out of the original version of "The Longest Yard" with Burt Reynolds. For Baseball it's wide open. I can honestly say the best one I have ever seen is a movie called "Pastime" with William Russ and Glen Plummer. It's a hidden gem and if you are a true sports fan you will love it. Enjoy.
