I go to a community college in California and I'm taking a Humanties class that is twice a week and goes from 1:45pm-5:00pm. Sometimes the class gets out earlier at 4:20pm or 4:30pm. However, the professor rarely gives us a 10 min break to use the restroom or somthing. She complains when people leave the room when she has not assigned a break. Some people just take a break on their own to use the restroom or something without her permission. And, then she starts yelling at us.
My friend told me what she is doing is against the law? But, my freind does not go to school she works full time at a store. So, it is a possibility that she is getting work break laws confused with college break laws. So, I was wondering what my professor is doing is illegal. Is there such a law if CA regarding giving students a break if the class is more than two hours long?

I have never heard of there being a law, but I doubt there is one. If your bladder can't hold for a 3 hour class (mine can't for medical reasons), go to her office hours and politely tell her that you don't want to disrespect her, but you will need to excuse yourself during class. That should work.

There may be an OSHA law about breaks for workers, I've heard it before, but I would be surprised if it applied to universities, especially if you go to a private school.

Yes, your friend is definitely confused. Such a law would be insane. I wouldn't be thrilled to have a class run 4 hours straight, but it's really just 3, from your description. Most people can hold it for 3 hours...just avoid drinking before you go in.

of route that is unlawful for a professor to carry your sources hostage. He can kick you out of sophistication or get campus safe practices, yet he can not keep you from getting your issues. you're an man or woman paying to attend college, no longer a young individual that has a criminal criminal responsibility to attend. yet i do not imagine he may be charged for some thing except he surely takes your issues, because you could continuously bypass to administration and get them to open the door for you.

it aint about the law, you are in college. you are on your own time. the classroom is not a dictatorship. if you feel you need a break take it, you are paying her to teach you and for the right to be there. dont be so intimidated! if she yells at you tell her "don't yell at me!"
