Depends what your conviction was for, but in general I would say, no, if it was a felony. You would have to look at the paperwork yourself.

No actually, the only person to thank is you. You are the one who has a criminal record. No offense to you. I believe everyone is entitled to mistakes. Now for your question, this would also depend on your offense. If it's a felony, then I would imagine that you cannot own ANY kind of firearm. If you're on probation, then you'll need to ask your probation officer this question, or even ask your attorney. Just make sure you don't have any kind of firearm in your possession until you find out exactly what you can or can't have. Possession of a firearm could lead you back into jail again, with an addendum to your criminal record. Maybe in the future, you can get a pardon or the equivalent to one. Best of luck to you....

Actually you can't blame Pres. Clinton, it is the Brady Bill. That said you have broken the laws of the land, and the only way you can get a gun is to buy it off an individual.

It depends on the state. Each state has its own laws about felony gun disenfranchisement (so Bill Clinton had nothing to do with it). Many allow shotguns for hunting and many also have a restoration process where you can regain your right to own a gun. I could get you more information with the state you are in.

So go to a legal gun dealer and find out what you are legally allowed to buy. Quit blaming Clinton for your own criminal record.

Don't do the crime if you can't handle the time. A criminal record tends to follow a person for a LONG time maybe yah should have thought about that Before the crime rather than after the fact.

You actually have John Hinkley Jr to thank because he was the one started this chain of events and thus the Brady Act was enacted. Hinkley attempted to assasinate Reagan, but shot his assistant, James Brady.

Purchases from a non-FFL are not subject to the Brady Law but may be covered under other federal, state (usually) and local (rarely) restrictions. This distinction prevails without regard to the locus of the sale. Thus FFL sales at gun shows are still subject to NICS approval while private sales are not. The so-called "Gun Show Loophole" would be more accurately called a "Private Sale Loophole."

The Brady Law does not apply to licensed Curios & Relics (C&R) collectors but only in respect to C&R firearms [1]. The FFL Category 03 Curio & Relic license costs $30 and is valid for 3 years. Licensed C&R collectors may also purchase C&R firearms from private individuals or from federal firearms dealers, whether in their home state or in another state and ship C&R firearms in interstate commerce by common carrier. Curios or relics are defined in 27 CFR 478.11 as "Firearms which are of special interest to collectors by reason of some quality other than is associated with firearms intended for sporting use or as offensive or defensive weapons." The regulation further states "To be recognized as curios or relics, firearms must fall within one of the following categories:

(a) Firearms which were manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas thereof;

(b) Firearms which are certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; and

(c) Any other firearms which derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or because of their association with some historical figure, period, or event. Proof of qualification of a particular firearm under this category may be established by evidence of present value and evidence that like firearms are not available except as collector's items, or that the value of like firearms available in ordinary commercial channels is substantially less."

Actually your own breaking the law is to thanks for that one. I for one am happy that individuals with criminal records cannot buy hand guns. Same reason they take drunk driver's lisences away... good chance it will happen again.
