Conservatives are all about thier so-called "culture of life", but they don't seem to care much about life once it leaves the womb. Thousands of embryos are thrown in the trash every year. Wouldn’t it be better to use them to relieve the suffering of others?

I have to ask this: What is a better option if Conservatives are really serious about "culture of life": Throw the embryonic cells in the trash or use them to grow a new heart for a baby born with a bad one?

Think about that and get back to me.

Remember, we are not talking about fetuses, but embryos and embryos that if not used will be thrown in the trash. We are not talking about abortion. That is completely separate issue.

cirque, is the embryonic cell used for research the same as an embryonic cell used for fertilization. The answer is no. Different harvesting technique, different storage requirements. By the way, an embryonic cell is not a baby. A baby is not considered a baby, by law in most states until the mother reaches a certain stage of gestation. In NY it is about 20 weeks. Think about that for a second, to even be recognized under law as being a child, the mother has to complete over half of her pregnancy. Can an embryonic cell live outside it's mother, on it's own, without support from any other thing, no. Could a baby, yes, eventually. The second question becomes, since the law was written in a way to make stem cell research the final step in the use of a stem cell before it is disposed of, there is no baby being hurt. By the time scientists are ready to dispose of an embryonic stem cell, the time for it being used for fertility has long passed. Chew on those facts for a while. Bush is trying to impose his morals on the rest of the country, even though over half of the country think he is wrong.

Fundamentalists are currently controlling conservative policy, helped by a significant minority in Congress and a President that shares their beliefs.

Many conservatives favor stem cell research and want those embryos used for the good of the living. They realize those embryos would be tossed in the trash. No thanks to the Bush veto, those embryos will be tossed in the trash.

It's tragic. This research AND treatment could help so many. When the government is a bit more balanced (hopefully) after the 2006 elections, maybe they will try again.

Why are most liberals so in favor of death? Abortion, embrionic stem cells, euthenasia...the only thing they have going for them is they're against the death penalty (wish conservatives would catch up with that one).

Just because we CAN use embrionic stem cells doesn't mean we SHOULD. Why are supporters of this so reluctant to consider the use of other type of stem cells...like those from umbilical cords?

Why are some liberals reluctant to even consider moral repercussions of their desired policies.

We live in a world where disregard for human life is perfectly acceptable and then wonder why we have more violence and abuse-kids shooting teachers and classmates...it's insane and it was not like this 50 years ago...one has to ask why.

Although abortion and the like are not to blame for these-it's the overall 'culture of death' our society embraces and the lack of accountability that liberal policies have created.

And you ask why conservatives hate sick kids so much...I should ask...why do abortion supporters...they support the idea of aborting a baby because he MIGHT have spina bifida or down syndrome...better not to deal with it...throw him in the garbage.

And you may be wondering why I am talking about abortion so much-because the concepts are the same. It's the same thing-killing an embryo for medical science or killing an unborn child because he's nuissance.

The reason we don't want to use the embryos thrown away is that people will have to start paying for that. Once it becomes marketable, as a way of earning money, it won't stop. Suddenly, embryos will be killed for the express purpose of selling them to whatever thing. While it would be nice to help suffering kids... I don't want to do anything that might inadvertantly support abortion. By the way, embryos do feel pain quite early... what about their suffering? Anyway, that's why.

Yes, cause sick kids spread disease. Geez. Anyway, President Bush's veto did not "ban" stem cell research. It vetos a bill to provide Federal money for that research. If embryos are being thrown in the trash then it may be time to go dumpster diving if you want to do the research. Wipe 'em off and take down to the local Stem Cells R Us.

Do you even know what you are talking about? Do you know about NON embryonic stem cells? Did you know that we can get stem cells from Adults and from the umbilical of new born babies? Hmmm??? Did you know that? We don't have to murder unborn children to get the stem cells.

I want you to provide me with the research that states we will get more advancements through embryonic stem cells. I won't hold my breath. It's not out there.

Conservatives value all life just as anyone else, even you with your obvious mental deficiency. Now you think about that.

I don't like suffering period. If you had an animal that was suffering, you would take it to the lake and drown it. Your grandparents did this all the time and they were not pychopaths, but turned out to be the sweetest, kindest people. I'm sure if you really know your family history tree, someone had to kill and burry a person that was born with no arms or legs. That's what it was like back then. People just dealt with it and moved on and had more kids.

Not only do they hate sick kids, but sick adults. They couldn't care less about the health of a mother, but will turn a blind eye to an abortion clinic bombing. I don't see them lining up to adopt all those kids.

The embryos which are destroyed could save lives of the living. All they care about it upping their voter roles.

ohkay, cirque, that was uncalled for. The reason for the conservative's downright hate for stem cell research is because somewhere along the line some priest got it in his head to say no to it. They will do anything their holy rollers tell them to, making them the perfect American citizens: ones who fear their God, their Government, and any individual thought. Of course, this is a generalization, and I know that not ALL conservatives are like this. But in total, this is the big G.W.'s thinking.

Conservatives hate everyone that doesn't just blindly follow the conservative beliefs. No room for thought, no room for waviering. It's what the conservative values are built on and they do not have the capacity to feel any other feeling or empathize with anyone in a bad situation.
