bohemianboi and frequency both make a point that needs to be addressed. They both feel, (and rightly so) that because they're white they have nothing and the Blacks, Browns, and other non-whites have everything!
Yes, like LAWS on the books that favor whites. Like a society that since it's inception has been constitutionally concerned with "only white men". Like a country that not only fostered slavery, which at the time was a world-wide enterprise, but when the rest of the civilized world realized how bad slavery was and began abolishing the practice, AMERICA not only continued it but constitutionalized it. Like a society that produces idiots from both sides of the issue; those who are of African descent who have the audacity to use a derogatory term and try to lay an exclusive claim on it and those of European descent who have the audacity to claim that programs for under privledged and woefully underrepresented groups in this white America are some kind of affront or unfair.
White people don't need W.E.T. They own the airwaves. White people don't need affirmative action they dominate all areas of societal acceptance already.
If you're a white person and you don't have a job it's more than likely your unemployment is not because of your skin color. Not so for Black folk.
and Finally, the original question was "what is with the "N" word?"
and so far I've yet to see an accurate representation of the actual etymology of the word. My suggestion to punkymonkey and all the rest of the terribly misinformed is to Google the word + etymology or go to Ask.com

That is exactly what is wrong with the word ******. If person that is not black, its considered rude, almost criminal to think the word ******, and if you utter the word ******... oh my. The Racist talk comes out.

It is a word people. The word is nothing, its the racist thought behind it that is the problem, if it is spoken with racist intent. As a white guy I'm not even supposed to sing a song that has ****** in it, unless I just don't say ******. Guess I have to censor myself...

One would think Nazi would be the real N word, more people's lives were destroyed by Nazi thinking than have ever been harmed by ******.

Soup-Nazi, Parking lot Nazi, Phone Nazi... all accepted and even considered funny... But don't say ******...

What a crock of ****. Same with this stupid censor... Sensor Nazis...

It's okay for you to ask, and it is not a stupid question. The N word came from the first Africans sold into the slave trade near the river Niger in Africa. Traders began asking for this particular group of people because of their strong bodies. Used in that way, n***** kind of meant "thoroughbred."

In the U.S. today, attitudes about the word are changing. It is generally considered extremely rude for a white person to say it, but if a black person says it, it's OK.

I totally agree with you frequency. Like at my college, we have the Mexican American Engineering Student Association, and scholarships for single, Hispanic mothers that already have 6 kids, but nothing for the white, Pre-Med majors as far as scholarships or student organizations. Wonderful. And what's really bad is these scholarships to the minorites, half of them can't even spell scholarship by themselves.

The "n" is a negative word for Afro. Americans or Blacks. It was brought to the forefront during slavery. It was use to degrade an humilate blacks. The use of the words was used to make blacks feel like they were indeed just brought property. Blacks were not considered humanbengs just property..
