Generally war means that at least two sides are fighting. Battle implies that there is violence, but not necessarily two sides. In relation to current events, ie Lebanon/Israel, the media seems to be using "battle" because Lebanon is not fighting back it's just Israel pounding the country. So that's not really a war. Except maybe on civilians.

A warfare is an armed conflict between 2 international places or factions. it must be a wrestle over land, concepts, or factors. it ought to very last for below some days, or it ought to drag on for years. A conflict is even as forces from both area are in quite wrestle with one yet another. they many times do not very last almost as long as a warfare. operating example, the Civil warfare lasted for 4 years, with man or woman moves going on off the French coast, Colorado, and the Galapagos Islands, no longer to point the major theatres of warfare stretching from Maryland to Missouri. The conflict of Gettysburg turned right into a three-day affair which engaged only part of the completed skill of the Union and the Confederacy. i'd say that the only accurate conflict that the U.S. misplaced may be in the course of the Korean warfare, in 1950. The U.S. had damaged through the communist strains and were in warm pursuit in the direction of the Yalu River even as the chinese language intervened and pushed us again to the thirty eighth parallel, the position the border lies on the prompt. this isn't to belittle the braveness and decision of our infantrymen and marines, notwithstanding it turned right into a defeat. some may say that Mogadishu (as advised in Black Hawk Down) turned right into a conflict, yet by using WWII criteria it may were a unmarried operation interior a conflict.
