Who agrees that the pledge of of us should be changed from "Under god" to something a little more form fitting with out OWN laws of seperation of church and state, i mean yes christianity is a part of our history, but so are a number of other religions. Enslaving african american's is part of our histroy as well, but do we honor that? i would hope not. Who is bush and the rest of thoes people in the government to turn their views into my laws? when so many people compeltly disagree with things such as abortion, stem cell research, gay marraige and the pledge, why should they be made illegal? If you don't like gay marriage, then don't marry someone who is gay. But it should be an option if you want to. If you don't want to get an abortion, then don't. But girls who are 14 and get raped should have that option. If you don't believe in stem cell research, then don't go into it at your field, but let thoes who want to save lives with thoes advancements do so.

anyone else agree?

I agree with a lot of what you are saying here. People should have the right to make their own choices on a vast majority of things just because someone has an opposing view should not make it illegal

That is a tough call. I am not sure we need to start changing everything to make it more "correct". I strongly agree with the separation of church and state, however the Pledge of allegiance has been around a long time-and hurts nothing. In most religious male Deity's are refereed to as a "god", so dose it matter? Besides I agree with some of your other ideas about gay marriage and stem cell research, this should be the choice of the person not their government!

If I were to apply your logic to the issue of "Under God" in the pledge...Then I would simply tell you that if you don't want to say "Under God"....don't.

I don't think "Under God" should remain a part of the pledge because it's a part of history. Like you said, slavery is a part of our history as well. I think it should remain a part of the pledge because half the nation WANTS it there. If you'd like to change the pledge to suit something that you actually agree with, by all means, do so. You should still allow the people who WANT to say "Under God" the right to say it.

And just so ya know, you won't be saying the pledge much outside of public school and baseball games. Thank goodness most adults aren't as passionate about being bathroom monitors as you are about reciting the pledge.

"One nation, indivisible, with liberity and justice for all." Yes, that sounds just fine. Remove the other words to respect people's right to have or not have religion in their lives in this country. I never thought about the pledge much, but you made a lot of great points. Yes, the pledge needs to change or go. I love my country, but is there really a need for this little piece of politics in our schools? I'd rather we take that minute or 30 seconds each day to stand silent and honor the men and women who lose their lives every day defending our country.

I agree totally. We need to keep the pledge but we should remove religious references. Even though we live in a country where 87% of the people believe in God, it is not fair to the other 13% who do not. A fictional character has no place in our pledge of allegiance. Or maybe we should add the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy to it.

I agree. Yes, personally i would never get an abortion, but the option should be there, like u said, for rape victims. I think things are getting out of control. What happened to our rights? What happened to our freedom?

"I pledge allegiance to my flag and the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty, equality and justice for all."

That is how the pledge was written. That is the pledge I have taught to my son. From the original pledge, "equality" was removed, and "under God" added. Coincidence?

I won't stop reciting the pledge, because I love my country, but I skip right past the God references. It's my right as an American.

No I disagree I think it should be left alone - saying under God does not just mean Christians or for Christians.
