I am rebuilding a bike that has been sitting outside for 3 years. Yes, it is probably stupid, but I'm trying anyway. On the carburetors, the screws holding the top cover to the main body, are horrible. some of them are basically crumbling when I try to turn them. I am using all kinds of liquid wrench etc... but it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

ZEP makes a product called "Twister" which is the best penetrating oil I have ever used! If you can not find it, get the MOPAR penetrating oil from your local Dodge/ Chrysler/ Jeep dealer. It is almost as good!!!

Steel screws in aluminum are tough to get out. Drilling would be my last resort, but...Try to find a left-hand drill bit, and use a reversible drill. Stop after drilling the heads off, then remove the top cover. If you are going to dip them in carb cleaner, do it before you try to get the remaining screws out.

Backout Bits for a drill. You can pick 'em up at Sears, Home Depot, etc. but you'll probably have to replace any screw you use them on.

Yes, go to a gun store and get some G96. It has chloroflourocarbons and they will eat the corrosion up. Past that, you'll have to drill and tap. Good luck.

You could always use a fine drill and maybe get them out that way.
