There's no magic way to get people to do this, but generally, if you are respectful and really have something good or valuable to say, people will listen.

The ones we really ignore are those who either hog the conversations, say "stupid things," or are totally disrespectful or gossip a lot.

Other than that, people do listen to those with good ideas.

Now in teaching, which is what I do now, students have to listen to us or their grades suffer, so we don't really have this problem as much as do those in the "business world."

I guess it depends on what you want to say. Go into a bank and say (in a normal tone), "I'm going to rob this bank"...and they'll listen. The key with anyone listening is to say something that matters or that they will care about. People can't stand others who just talk to hear themselves talk. If this doesn't work - try a bullhorn.

Mega has the right idea. Dont offer an opinion until its asked of you. Dont volunteer information.

Eventually people will turn to you for your thoughts, then give them.

I let them know that I understand / appreciate their points of view so they don't feel they have to repeat themselves. Also, I try to be as concise as possible - no unnecessary words.
