You can do this at the US Copyright Office – see the last link in the source box. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $45 per application.

There are 5 different applications that can be filed; it's all dependent on the content. When you get to the home page, look at the top right hand column for the links to all the different applications.

Despite what others state, a "poor man's" copyright is NOT the same as registering it. Here's what the US Copyright Office has to say:

"The practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself is sometimes called a 'poor man’s copyright.' There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration."

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

The first answer is the correct one.

You do not need a lawyer, it is not automatically copyrighted and it is easy. Go to the copyright web site and just follow their directions. You need to send a copy of your work to the copyright office.

I would look into talking with a lawyer first. There are so many scam companies out there that have been known to take the client's money and steal their idea by copyrighting it under themselves.

It's free. Work is automatically copyrighted when you create it.
