I would choose Martinsville, just for the shear enjoyment of watching the race. If you are at Indy, you may wind up looking at the crowd in front of you. Meanwhile the race is going on all around the track.
In Martinsville, you will see most of the race with good seats. I have been to several tracks and in Atlanta, even with the best seats, you can lose sight of your driver on a 1.5 mile track. In Talledega, you can completely lose track of your driver. In Bristol and Martinsville you see the whole race.
I never have gone to Indy, but just watching it on the tube, you can see that the stands facing each other must really stink.
Where ever you go, be prepared to sit in the middle of allot of people. The seating area is so small, I am surprised they can sell them. If it feels cool the day you go to the races, don't worry. When among the 100,000 fans, the temperature is hot in the stands.
The cheapest and best seats I ever had, were purchased through eBay.
Good Luck with your decision and have a great time!
Oh, I almost forgot. If you have children, make sure you take allot of cash. My daughter almost bought out the Kasey Kahne booth. Between the shirts, hats, pins, patches and other things (A Flippin Purse), you can spend some serious bucks. But at the end of the day, it's all worth it because after all, it's NASCAR!

Between those two tracks, I would definitely choose Martinsville. Indianapolis would be good simply because of its history. But you have a much better chance of seeing more of the race at Martinsville.
As far as tickets, if you are going to purchase them from the Speedway, you will need to check their website for the timing of ticket sales. The earlier you purchase them, obviously the earlier you need to buy them. If you are buying from a race tour, their timelines may be a little bit different.

I live in Ct and have been to Dover De 6 times, Martinsville, NH 2xs, Lows in NC, Poconos.
The best track In my opinion is Dover, My husband and I go twice a year, it's close, easy to get to and has awesome seats. we were just there in June, hoping to make the Sept race.
At some tracks front row seats aren't good, the higher up you are the more of the track you see, of course the higher you sit the more the tix cost. we always sit near the top.
I have also gotten tix for a Dover race by calling the ticket booth at the track on the Thursday before a Sunday race.

Honestly they are both excellent tracks. If you need any help with reservations or getting tickets let me know because I own a racing tour company. I recommend getting your tickets at least, and I repeat at least, one month in advance but the sooner you do it the better. Depending on what race track you choose front row isn't always the best place to watch the race. I recommend tower seats at the larger tracks (Talledega, Daytona, MIS) and about half way up at the rest of the tracks. If you want to see the action that is. These tracks are bigger than you think!

MARTINSVILLE! i've been to dozens of races at several different tracks(but never indy) and martinsville is my favorite. it is the real NASCAR experience, in a small southern, mountain town, it takes you back to the roots of NASCAR, it's spiritual. you can get EXCELLENT seats on the backstretch dirt cheap($42.00). and come a couple of days early for the awesome tailgating. there is a hotel right across the street from the track called the travel inn on rt. 220. they have a 3 day minimum for $100.00 a day, or there is plenty of good camping. i camp right beside that hotel in a little privately owned lot. we have campfires and just party the weekend away, it's an awesome time

I love Atlanta Motor Speedway. The track is awesome and you can see everything from basically any seat. Where ever you go... don't forget the ear plugs. It's really loud... but it's awesome!
BTW< the bass pro shop 500 is the last weekend in october. awesome race... best seats in champions grandstand. right across from pit row.

I love Lowe's motor speedway and you can see the track from most seats. Wherever you decide to go, get your tickets as early as possible.

Indy is the best track end of turn 4, at finish line across from the pits, you can watch the jumbo tron + see the pit action. Both tracks are good, but Indy has museum, etc. If you wait to buy tickets when you get there their are a lot of scalpers(it's legal in Indy) you can get some great deals. Also , you can get them at qualifing & check out the track, best deals, etc.,If you don't want to do that, I'd get them ASAP.

I loved Talladega but better yet, wait til next year and treat yourself to Darlington under the lights the night before Mother's day. It is great every year I go. You could fly into Myrtle and enjoy some quality beach time and then go to the race. I drive to Florence and catch a free shuttle that drops and picks me up right at the gate. It is the slickest thing and fighting the traffic is someone elses headache. Enjoy, whereever you go!
