asp.net is technology for web development. You can use any .net supported language such as vb.net or c#.net

Windows applications typically are indicated by just vb.net or c#.net

however web applications are typically noted as asp.net/c# or asp.net/vb

Depends on what you are trying to do or make, vb.net is an actual programming language that you use to make software ie an installable piece of software and asp.net is a server side language that has dot net stuff on top of it to do things on a website that can be used and seen on the internet :)

VB.NET and ASP.NET are not directly comparable.

In fact, they are quite different.

The question, as you ask it, is akin to "do you walk to school, or do you bring your lunch?"
