I know there are limits as to what any president can do in these situations, but I believe cowboy diplomacy has put us in a situation where there isn't much we can do.

The bastard son of a Roman emperor through marriage. His mother convinced her husband to choose him over his natural son for power, for rule. She then versed him in the social graces of the time to make him eloquent. When scripted he was convincing some saying a Golden Age had arrived. Few questioned his ascent to the throne of power and he brought along his boyhood tutor. Who it was rumored was the force behind the throne. In the early years he ruled through benevolence do to his need for adoration and acceptance. Time passed and he broke allegiance with those who brought him to power and his closest allies committed suicide. Free of this he played with the liberal mindset but feared the conservatives wrath. He was not inclined to suffer setbacks or criticism well and this was his downfall. He liked food, fun and religious euphoria, he grew fat. He was shallow in his affection for the substance of religion and none of it benefited Rome, the fire of 64 proves it. The fire burned for five days then flared again for four and Nero emerged the benevolent leader. Although the Jewish/Christan's were blamed rumors circulated that Nero himself had started it. His home country lost faith in him and his power become fleeting to the point his sleeping Government woke and moved against him. The Senate ruled him a public enemy and ordered his execution. This in part because he could not dispel the rumors he played a role in the fires and that he'd seized much for himself after the fire of 64 while Rome was decimated.

O thus be it ever when free-men (rich in oil) shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the destroyed land
Praise the Pow'r that (destroyed while liberating)!
Then conquer we must, (we will) when our cause it is just(in our own eyes),
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!”(and in Gods voice we claim to hear it says take rape and pillage)
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

My answer yes President Nero fiddles while Rome (Iraq) burns and this is what happens when men become leaders through deception.

Jeepers guys, haven't you ever heard of Nero? Well, to answer the question, being a president is not easy and no right answers in war. We have a hard time just to settle a fight within our own families, imagine way across the world.
We are in the end times, the prophesies are being realized & even if President Nero stopped playing the fiddle..Middle East will still burn.

The difference between bush and Nero that it was Nero's city which was burning. The United States didn't cause the dispute in the Middle East, and can't solve it unilaterally. Israel will listen to us, but only to a certain point. We're definitely involved, but Bush's primary objective is for Israel to continue to exist and, hopefully, disable Hezbollah. His strategy to allow Israel to continue to pound Hezbollah into submission (for a little while, at least) is compatible with that policy. As he sees it, Israel is at war with the terrorists who want to kill all Jews in Israel (which they certainly are). Whether he pushes for it or not, Israel won't come to the table until they're ready, and they're very likely not ready to right now. But, when they are there, the United States, United Nations, and European Union will be there to moderate.

I assume you mean President Bush is fiddling. But, what do you expect him to do: send it troops (God, I hope not), make air or artillery strikes (Israel is doing a fine job of that), negotiate a peace (when the terrorists will ignore him), pressure the UN to do something (when China a Russia will veto any actions), Impose sanctions against Hezbollah (they are already in effect), pressure other Moslem nations to stop supporting Hezbollah (he has already done that), or drop and atomic bomb (and start WW III, plus ruining all that nice oil). Or maybe you think that Israel doesn’t have the right to defend itself against illegal warriors (terrorists). If you think that then I guess we should have just rolled over and played dead after 9/11. If Israel doesn’t defend itself then the government will die. Israel will either be destroyed or the government will fall.

So which side are YOU on?

What should President Bush do? Israel is a sovereign nation, under attack. They have no responsibility to the United States (nor the UN, which has done little more than urinate on them since founding the nation in 1948).

If your neighbor declared that you needed to get off your property or he'd kill you and then he proceeded to throw Molotov cocktails at your house, send his cat into your yard strapped with dynamite and when you went to the police, they said that it's not THEIR problem, what would YOU do?

To answer "Pancakes" question: Nero is another word for President Bush and he's "fiddling" with his crap while the Middle East is dying. Actually, I don't really know but my answer sounds good!

while it is refreshing to see a reference to someone other than Hitler.. I still think this is a little overboard...

The middle east has been burning for centuries... if Bush was working on making it burn more, it would most likely put out the fire... since his policies always seem to have the opposite of the desired effect...
