We had to craft Mind, the Nous, and Noumenon! to understand the body-- and it will not be too soon when we find the separation unnatural. The mind only ever serves the body, dies with the body, is wrapped up in desire and animal coping. Reason IS instinctual. To make a category we find distinctions among particulars, then hold those aspects Above them-- MAKING what falls under the grouping into similarities, groupings of attributes, sciences from mere perceptions. And why? It's in our interest, our body craves it-- as a dog craves to know what actions will entice his master to open the door, what actions will keep from the newspaper beating.
Strength is power: Potent Potentiality, Ability. Expressed power is not the same. It is warcraft and planning, but when on the battlefield, power lessens. Vulnerabilities arise. As a strained muscle cannot respond to more weight. But without activity and expression "of" strength, the quality is questionable; unknown, it is a weakness. Practice is involved in the concept. Knowledge of boundaries, modes and means require not just tact, but the tactile display, which learns and develops from such activity. Simulations only go so far. Even if they are perfect, reliability under actual pressure cannot be known. But the actual also draws on the practice matches, the skills and drills. Without these methods, displays of strength waver vis-a-vis the conditioned opponenet.
That is why power is IN the gun. In the stockade. In the nuclear arsenal. In the ideology of a nation. The missle launcher is not inert matter on the shelf. It deters while it collects dust. It gives command and force to mere words of politician and general. These things, that evoke pain, that draw on blood, and Histories of the same-- truly control. The inhumanity of the prison translates directly into the pacification of the population. And those that question the summoning of power into being, will, like the dog, be beaten into submission. Which informs the animal-- and empowers them to know what it is that they must overcome.

Matter over mind? I think not.The strongest muscle, if I may indulge in some dramatic license, is the brain. Giving in to carnal or animalistic behavior doesn't take strength, the strength comes in not engaging in the behavior if it is self destructive or endangers those around us. That is the power of the mind. It is always easier to say yes. The strength is in saying no.

It has been observed that through concentration you can move material objects. Moreover, with your mind, you have the power of moving from one place to another real fast. For example, mentally you can be in New York and within a second you can also be in Thailand (bring back memories of your holidays in Thailand). You can be in your childhood days and immediately you can come back to your present age. When it is a question of strength, you have a huge fellow without guts but another man not having just ordinary personality but with lot of guts. To your amusement, you will find the ordinary fellow with lot of guts, controlling the huge fellow without guts. Similarly, during 2nd world war, the allies were asked to avoid physical combat with the Japanese because they could defeat their opponents with martial art even though physically the opponents were much stronger. As you could see, strength is mind over matter. It is because of this reason, a human being is able to control an elephant.

Strength has many uses such as my mind is strong or that table is strong etc. the question seems to be what is the universal idea binding all the uses.
I would like to say as follows;
That which is strong is that which is less volatile. For example a table that is strong is one that wont bend from the weight or s trong mind is that which wont bend from the emotions. Therefore it could be said that which is objective is strong as those who can see this will see this.

Strength is a general term used to describe many different things from thought to any form or matter. Strength signifies ability. Ability is required for survival. One of our strengths is that we have the ability to adapt to change. That is a strength in that it helps us to survive. It is not a matter of mind over matter or anything like that. Strength is the ability to overcome stress. It doesn't matter if it is steel or wood or coping skills.

How can matter be over mind. If you think about it, matter is only controlled by the mind. Your body is controlled by your mind. If someone beats you up, his mind controlled his matter (body) to beat your body. Everything in exsistance was created by some higher intelligence (mind). So, the very thought of matter (anything) "over" mind (intelligence or creator) is fiction. Think about it.....even our primal, animalistic instincts have roots in our mind. Eg: if an ape wants to be leader....the instinctual nature is to fight to see who wins thus is leader....but.....the ape will use tatics to try to win....that is some limited mental activity. Therefore, i think we are talking about "control" more than strength. Intelligence will always control the matter, it may be latent but it is there.
