If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

I HAVE THE ANSWER TO ACNE!
I have a teen aged brother and me who have struggled with Acne for years...we tried many things, including Proactive and prescription medicines as well. Then, we found the solution.
Please don't shrug it off because this can help you a lot.
I was searching through the Internet and found www.acne.org. The site is owned by a guy named Dan. Dan, struggled with acne as well. He read medical books and tried many things on the market. Then, he found the way. BENZYL PEROXIDE! Now, I bet you have used it many times before but it hasn't done much right? Well, the reason is because everything on the market is 5% or 10% Benxyl Peroxide. These irritate your skin which causes MORE acne! (Touching it irritates it as well which causes more acne.) There is one thing on the market that has non irritating Benzyl Peroxide....2.5% Benzyl Peroxide. Netrogena on the Spot Acne Cream has 2.5. Nothing else on the market. You can get stuff on the Internet that have 2.5%! It is also on the site www.acne.org.
The regimen includes: First washing your face with a cleanser (suggested ones are on the site)
Then, drying and adding LARGE AMOUNTS or Benzyl Peroxide. In the beginning very little but you rank it up to 2 fingers after time.
Last, you moisturize, because the Benzyl Peroxide may dry up your skin. Suggested ones are on the website as well.
Go to www.acne.org and read about the clear skin regimen.
THIS MAN IS NOT TRYING TO MAKE MONEY...HE IS NOT SELLING ANYTHING!
He just wants to help. I have clear skin and so does Dan. There is also a forum where you can read more. The site teaches you how to pop a zit the right way and to find out other products that have work well.
I hope I Helped!
(My brother who is also a teen is clear as well. This regimen takes about 8 weeks to be completely clear but you will see gradually the acne go away. There is no cure for acne, so you have to do the regimen every day until acne goes away.)

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.
In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.
Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.
In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.
If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.

To get rid of acne. Try a gentle cleanser. One that is glycerin or sorbitol based will be good and it does not need to be expensive. Cetaphil and Neutrogena has some pretty good ones. Try Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser. Stop the Clean and clear toner, it has alcohol which is irritating to the skin. Wash your face at least twice a day and everytime after you perspire. If your skin is the oily kind, you do not need to apply any moisturizer, your skin oils are enough to keep it hydrated. If you really must apply a gentle light oil free one. Cetaphil® Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 or Cetaphil® Moisturizing Lotion is quite good Apply pimple cream to the acne area. Try benzoyl peroxide low strength(2.5%) first. You can try oxy, panoxyl or Neutrogena brands. Neutrogena on-the-spot is pretty good. Don't pick poke scrub or pop your pimples unless you want scars which are really ugly. Scrubbing cleansers or washes are also no-nos because it equals picking and poking and makes acne worse Treated pimples gently. Eat healthy. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Cut down on sugar and carb intake. Foods like chocolates, coffee, soda drinks, bread, rice potatoes or anything starchy and sugary are no-nos. Cut down on oily and fried foods also. Go for grilled, steamed or baked food. Make sure you eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Ensure that your diet is rich in vitamin A, B5, C, E and Omega-3 which are important for the skin. Less stress and sleeping enough is also important. Not having enough sleep is like putting stress on your body. Makes sure you sleep at least 8 hours a day. Visit a dermatologist if it doesn't work or worsen. Products can only help that much. You may need to tackle the problem internally with medication.

I had horrible pizza acne for as long as I could remember and have tried literally every acne treatment out there. It took me over 23 years to figure out what my problem was and how to treat it. FWIW, I'm an African American Male in my late 30s.
First problem was that I assumed since my skin was "so bad" that I needed the harshest strongest treatments out there. Maximum strength this and Maximum strength that.... when the reality is that the harsher you treat your skin, the more it reacts and gets aggravated.
I also tried to squeeze and pop all my zits and boils in the wrong ways at the wrong times.
Lastly, I picked at the acne during the day which did nothing but spread bacteria and inflame the already inflamed site.
So what worked? Well, after decades of trail and error I learned that using the Proactive Treatment combined with Grisi Sulfur Acne Soap was the magic combination that cured me.
First, I wash with the Sulfur Acne Soap (comes in a yellow box sold by Grisi and is often in both English and Spanish). Then I immediately wash with the Proactive Wash. Lastly, I use the Proactive Step #3 Repairing Moisturizing Lotion with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.
I do this twice a day and for the first time in my life, my skin is 99% clear.
As far as popping zits go. You should use a sterile needle and essentially push through the blocked pore when the white head becomes visible. If done correctly, you should feel absolutely NO PAIN. The needle should go through the clogged pore and white head and then you should be able to push/roll your fingers underneath the zit then press together and all that crap should pop out with virtually no pain. If you feel pain then you are doing it too early.
As far as popping boils go, that is much harder and requires more expertise and usually there will be some pain involved. Similar to zits, you want to try to find a blocked pore to go through but some boils are not the result of blocked pores. Likewise when you do go through the pore sometimes you have to go a little deeper to get to the inflammation/infection. Lastly, when you do squeeze a boil it will usually be painful. There are probably better guides out there for treating boils.
The purpose of my post here was just to offer some help to anyone who is suffering.
I had the worst skin imaginable and I tried everything and finally found something that works.
Grisi Sulfur Acne Soap + Proactive Treatment (Step #1 wash and Step #3 repairing moisturizing lotion) gave me clear skin for the first time in my entire life (I'm 39 years old). Yes, its a little expensive but the real question is... how much is it worth to have clear skin and a vibrant face???

If you want 100% clear up of the acne, then the gold standard is that of laser therapy from a dermatologist. It is probably safer for someone then that of tetracylcine, but way more expensive.

proactiv is benzoyl peroxide and you get used to it. switch to something with salicylic acid and alternate between the two of them.
