Actually, most bitter pills ARE sugar coated with either a gelatin coating or put in a gelatin capsule. Most pills in tablet form have to have some kind of coating as a binding agent to keep it from becoming just a powder and able to be made into tablet form.

I stayed one night in Clearwater Beach, Florida, and it seemed like a lifetime. Has anyone else had this experience? It was a bitter pill to swallow. Thank God I am on Rush Limbaugh's Ditto list. Those Oxy Condits really came in handy. Got any more? My hearing is still impaired. My maid turned me onto them. A name without any sugar would not be as sweet. Ozzy Osbourne had a swallow for a big gulp. It drove him batty. No sweetners needed here. Dip your pills in chocolate. That is my prescription.

Because the sugar could react somehow. And, yes, it would melt and be sticky making it more difficult to swallow.
Myself, I can't swallow pills, I just get liquid form.
