Opposite end will be a dryer type plug.
Need to know what type of plugs and wire to purchase, and where to purchase, so I am able to make the cord.

Go to Home Depot or an electrical supply store and get the proper 4 prong plug, some 10-3 wire and a socket for the dryer, and hook them up. The green wire is ground, the white wire is neutral, and the red and black wires are the "hot" wires. I presume you are trying to run your dryer from your generator. If you are trying to back feed your whole house through your dryer outlet, then make sure you shut off the main power switch to your house before connecting your generator to your house. (you don't want to electrify the whole neighborhood and kill the electric line workers, now do you?)

In order to use your generator connected to your dryer outlet, you need turn off your main breaker panel during a power outage to make sure not to feed the power lines going outside your house. If you don't turn off the breakers, you will energize the line and the street transformer will step up your voltage and can kill anyone working in the power lines including your neighbors, who assumes there's no power in the lines. It is recommended to install a transfer switch, check your local codes requirements.

For the generator plug, refer to the number recommended in your generator manual. Typical generator outlet rating is 30 amps, so you can use #8 or #6 cable.

Dryer plugs and receptacles only have connections for three cables, two hot (red and black) and ground. So you don't have a neutral to connect to the four wire connector to be plugged in the generator. The ground cable from your dryer outlet will be working as a neutral (if you connect it to the generator plug neutral screw) what is not recommended and maybe prohibited by local codes.

Connectors and equipment can be found in general hardware stores (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.).

Hope this help you. Installing the transfer switch is the right option.

If your planning on back feeding your house thru your dryer outlet that's a bad idea, illegal, and you can kill someone, or yourself. The only legal way is to buy a transfer switch, some kits come with the cord and everything else needed. Check Home Depot, they have complete kits for around $200

You CANNOT do this. It sounds to me like you are going to backfeed into your dryer receptacle to provide limited power to your home during an emergency. This is illegal and will end up killing someone.

You need to install some type of transfer switch so power can't backfeed into the utility lines and kill the utility personal trying to repair your electricity.

Your portable generator with an output of 240 volts will backfeed through the utility transformer and step up to 4160 volts and possibly kill a utility worker trying to repair your electricity.
