mole is the unit of substance in the standard international system of units
the amount of substance that contains as many elementary units as there are atoms in 0.012 kg of carbon-12the elementary units must be specified and may be an atom,molecule,ion,radical,electron,etc., or a specified group of such entities. for example,1 mole of HCl has a mass of 36.46 g: i.e.1 mole of a compound has a mass equal to its molecular weight in grams.1 mole of electrons has a mass of 5.486*10^-4g
the mole replacessuch former units as the gram-atom,gram-molecule,gram-iom,and gram equivalent. symbol 'mol'
