Because the best director and best screen writers and best producers are not around any more, that's why I don't go to remake of movies because they aren't as good as the original and the people making the remakes don't have the same touch for delivering a good story for the screen as their predecessor did.

hollywood is trying to a hit a wider audience so some of the old r-movies are being made into pg-13 movies that suck
there are no more suprises and there are so many cliches, except for a select few
there are no more ideas
Hollywood is losing its magic =(

Most of the time the director thinks that he can top the old one with great special effects that they didn't have in the old days.
Unfortunately, they often "retell" the story in so doing.
You can make a great movie with a good story and crappy technology,
You can't make a great movie with good technology and a crappy story.
