It sounds like the motor has an internal heat protection device that is tripping. It may be new motor time. Don't forget to install a new capacitor with the new motor. If you want to replace the capacitor first as an experiment, it may be worthwhile (you have to buy one in any event) However, I am not optimistic that this will accomplish the fix.

OK, the capacitor can be checked with a meter, which your service tech should have. If your service tech does not have a capacitance meter, then find yourself a real tech.

If the capacitor test bad, replace it. If it is not bad, replace the motor and the capacitor both.

Simple as that , pay $200 to have the motor replaced, or pay $850 to have the compressor replaced when you burn it up.

not a capacitor issue. you either have a motor that is bad, (overheating) or a contactor that is bad. you should be under some kind of warranty if you had a tech out. when it happens again... dont turn it off so he can pin point the problem. itm is deffinately some sort of overheating issue of the two. normaly, a fan will not run at all, or at half speed till it overheats if it is a capacitor issue

I've ran into this a couple of times and found the post that the batteries make contact with loose tension, so I would remove the batteries and barely bend the post toward the batteries and make a tighter connection and the problem would go away.
