I've had my period for 4 years now and never did I use deodorant before. I never really found an actual need. Is it absolutely necessary though? Because it's not like I get BO or something.

Thanks for your suggestions. I honestly never realized how crucial it was because no one has ever mentioned to me that I have BO. Even so, I don't know if I do or don't. I guess it can't hurt to use it though.

I just spoke to my mom about it. She told me most Chinese people don't really have an issue with BO. And I just exercised before (didn't shower) and she said she didn't smell anything.

Nothing abnormal about it. There are people of certain cultures or ethnic groups who don't use deodorants either.

Ask someone you know and trust whether you need it, like your Mom or your best friend. I know people who have absolutely NO NEED for deodorant and never use it or only use only natural deodorant. I would also check from time to time whether you need it, every few months or so. There's nothing wrong if you have a little smell, but some people can be prissy and judgemental as you can tell from some of the other answers. In the end, it's up to you and what makes you comfortable.

It's just good manners to practice good hygiene. I know several people who think they have little to no body odor but it's there. I was down wind on an escalator today and the kid several steps above me is in that weird puberty stage where they emit that nasty body odor but they're still in that kid mentality where you're still trying to get them to practice good hygiene. I looked at her mom amazed that she can put up with that stinky kid. Everyone should wear deodorant. Toms of Maine makes some nice blends. You might be used to your natural smell but other people most likely don't appreciate it and they're too polite to inform you that your natural odor is offending them on a probably daily basis. It might be the one factor holding you back from people wanting to know you better. Bacteria and crud emitted through your pores has little to nothing to do with your chemicals like hormones and pheromones.

I think it is necessary for actually - anyone to use a deodorant even if you think you don't need it.
The fact is - there are some smells your body excretes and you don't even have an idea it is there - because you are used to your own smells.
Now let us say that your in your teenage years, do not wait for someone to complain that you have body odor - because once someone finds out you are going to feel embarassed.

Some believe that the aluminum found in anti-perspirants can contribute to Alzheimers Disease later in life, so I use a natural deodorant, without anti-perspirant
I have yet to meet anyone who wasn't in need of deodorant at one time or another, so don't just assume that others can't smell it even if you don't notice it.

Well if you're talking about normal antiperspirant...yeh thats pretty abnormal. You might want to look into buying a nice brand...as long as you don't cake it on there's not really a risk.
If you're talking about a personal deodorant...if you don't need it, don't use it. It can dry you out and cause a yeast infection and other unpleasant things.

Umm, I would deffinatly start using deoderant. It's just good hygene. & Maybe you have B.O. and people just aren't telling you? :/ Either way after awhile the wearing no deoderant will catch up to you. Especially if you have gym or something like that??

Just because nobody mentioned it, does not mean you don't have any. You can rarely smell yourself anyways. Don't use your own nose to judge.
It's also completely rude to say so. Only someone who is very close to you would be honest enough to tell you.

Thats poor hygiene. You may not smell yourself but others can. You should wear some just in case.
