I took my almost black hair platinum once, it started breaking off a few days later but it was gorgeous for a few days. If you do it yourself, you must bleach it with the powder/liquid bleach you can get at the beauty supply store and you MUST use red/gold corrector. It's a purple liquid that you mix in with the bleach. If you don't use red/gold corrector your hair WILL turn orange! After you have stripped all the color out, use a plantinum blonde toner (hair dye) with a 40 volume peroxide. You may have to bleach more than once before it is light enough to tone. Buy a really good Intense repairing conditioner and use between all bleachings and you will pretty much need to use that every time you wash your hair too. Good Luck.

No, I have never been platinum blond, but my daughter has been and was for years. I helped her color her hair. Now, there is a product on the market which allows somebody with light brown hair to go plantinum in one step. My daugher was born light blond and it darkened over the years. Anyway the product can be bought at many different stores just look around for "Natural Born Blond". There are a few different lightened shades from blond, to very blond to platinum blond.

Make sure you get enough boxes to cover your hair in a very wet fashion. I found over the years the more color you put in the better the results are. I also color my own hair and it is red. This Natural Born Blond is the BEST product I have found to color my daughters hair back to her natural platinum blond she was born with. But, don't let that fool you into thinking you have to have been born blond origanally to buy this and have it work. It works on anyone, unless you are of the darker skin tones with the hair that goes along with it. You can still use it, but I would suggest you have a proffesional do it if you have dark or black hair.

Darker hair can be turned platinum but it takes a couple of steps. First you lighten it a few shades, then wait a bit and then lighten it agian, wait a bit and then keep lightening until you get the disired shade. If you purchase the color seperate from the peroxide you need a 40 or higher peroxide to do the most lightening.

Good luck. Like I said, if you are only a brown the Natural Born Blond should work just fine. If you do not get the degree of lightening you want with the first application wait two-three weeks and then do another application. The wait period is important to cut down on damage to the hair folicles. Those who color too soon will get that straw hair look which is just so unattractive, plus looks fake.

When it is time to touch up the roots do it this way. Many color their entire hair each time they need to do the roots. This damages hair quickly and it is nearly impossible to keep it looking fresh, natural and as healthy as possible. What you do it put the color only on the roots. Don't use all the mixture, hold back at least a quarter of the bottle. Wait until it is ten minutes to the finish of the coloring period and then add a bit of shampoo plus purified water to the remaining color, and shake it up a bit to mix. Apply to the rest of your hair starting at the top and working down, doing the very ends last. Wait five minutes and then rinse out as usual. Use a mild shampoo to make sure you get out all the color and then use Pantene or another really good conditioner which you leave in for at least five minutes with ten being best. This super conditions your hair and leaves it healthy and managable. Continue to use a shampoo intended for color treated hair, or better yet for the blond use Clairols blue shampoo for grey and super blond. This keeps the yellowish, brasiness and other unwanted side effects out of your hair. It is called "Shimmer Lights" and it is by Clairol. I purchase mine at the local beauty supply store where I get the largest bottle at a great price.

Again, Good luck with your color treatment. What I wrote is good for any hair color treatments.

I have very light blond hair and it depends on how easy your natural hair color lifts... If it is a light brown it will probably lift easy.. But if you have never done it yourself try going to an Aveda salon . They have amazing products and are natural so the most damaging thing is the volume of the lift they choose for your hair or if they have to use bleach.. For your first time I would highly recommend that you look into Aveda on line... They have locations all over.. ~ Best wishes Chicky ~

PROFESSIONAL!!!! As a brunette there are MANY layers of color especially the red and orange stages that you have to get through. So unless you want to walk around with brassy orange hair you'll see a stylist first because you can damage your hair beyond what a stylist can fix without your hair falling out. They have access to products that's are not available to the public. TRUST ME I had my hair brake off years ago because of this very thing. I also later worked in a salon for 5 years and saw unbelievable things people did to their hair in order to 'save money'

My sister went platinum blonde a few months ago and she went to a professional first.Platinum blonde hair is difficult to do yourself and if you don't do it just right your hair might get severly damaged.

Definately go to a professional. Be careful because you will most likely have to strip you hair of it's natural color. It's hard to take care of too. Watch for hair breakage, especially in the warm season. Good luck!

I would go professional first. I have medium dark brown hair and the first time I went my head had a bad reaction not so bad that I never did it again but enough that I was glade that I was there were they could treat it instead of at home freaking out.

if you want the blondest of all possible blondes, then clarol ultra blue is what you want. it is a pure color stripper without a color additive. you should know though, than having brown hair, after the first stripping, you will be left with a slight reddish tint. all people whos hair isn't naturally blonde, have red as one of the pigments in their hair -- & the red is the most difficult to remove. there are solutions though.... clarol shimmer lights shampoo will negate the "orange after-affect" of bleaching your hair after about 2-3 days. my hair is medium brown, & i used to keep it nearly translucent all the time (for years in fact).
