My friend's guinea pig recently died of kidney stones. The poor thing was in so much pain, it was hard to watch. She had decided to do the surgery, but he didn't last long enough. I say, if you can afford to do it, then definitely consider the surgery, but remember that even if you do, it's no guarantee that your guinea pig will be alright. On such a small animal, even the tiniest incision or operation, (even the meds to tranquilize him during the surgery) are MAJOR for such a tiny animal. Also keep in mind the lifespan of a guinea pig....if he's already getting old, chances are lower of him recovering from an operation.

I thought kidney stones passed naturally. Anyways, if you can't afford to treat your pet medical treatment then you shouldn't own pets. Save his life! I mean, if you had a kidney stone whould you want to be put to sleep?

Now that depends on how much money you have, how much the surgery costs, and if you would rather have you pet or your money. Now pony up and make your own decision.
