Is there a way to vote someone's question "Best Question Of The Day"? I wish there was.

You'd get my vote!

To be consistent, the President should now propose legislation that makes (male) masturbation illegal, since this is clearly the wanton destruction of millions of "potential human beings" every day!

Do you know where they get stem cells from?
Stem cells are obtained from very young fetuses and umbilical blood. This means that most of these children where never given the chance to have a life. Think if you're parents had donated YOU to stem cell research. He's not going to give federal money, because that would raise the number of abortions in this country, without making the people feel bad. THey could say "No i didn't have an abortion i just donated my unborn baby to science." Plus there have been NO new cures or TREATMENTS found with stem cells.

While you and I agree on the stem-cell issue, such rhetoric as exemplified in your question hinders discussion on the question rather than abets it.

The other side speaks of using corpses of defensless babies for the benefit of rich cannibals.

Though I disagree with President Bush, he is taking a principled stand, protecting the lives of what he considers human beings imbued with the full rights of human beings.

Where President Bush and I part is in whether a dozen or so cells constitute a human being.

I think the real question is, "Why do so many people refuse to recognize the equal value of every human life?"

Every embryo is a genetically unique human being, which if given a womb in which to develop, will grow into a child and be born, barring a medical condition that results in his or her death before birth. By referring to these human beings as "stem cells," you reveal either your ignorance or the monstrosity of your disregard for human life.

it's a great political question. the republican are split on this one. my question is what is karl rove up to here. i believe his greatest challenge for the upcoming midterm elections is to maintain republicsan control of both houses of congress so that democrats do not gain congressional chairmanships that have the power of subpoena and can open up investigations into presidential behavior that have been unwanted so far by this republican congress. this is the values card being played and it must be trying to bring (simple minded, right or wrong) evangelicals out to the polls to vote again to keep senatorial seats from changing parties. it let's republicans who voted against stem cell federal funding to distance themselves fron an unpopular republican leader. if the veto cannot be overridden, which it cannot, then republicans can have it both ways election time. i voted against the president in districts where stem cells are popular, and i voted for american family values in rural districts the president is still hanging on. i'm sure karl crunched the numbers before W used the veto pen. it doesn't make sense to me but i'm sure karl has it gamed in the districts that matter.

As usual, this is a flame of the president worded as a question.

(I am speaking as a NON-Christian, my parents are both Jewish and I practice no formal religion).

It is a principle of Evangelical Christians that EVERY life is sacred, from the time of conception, to the time of death and that only God can judge that life (ie. to end it). As _fetal_ stem cells (which are different from adult stem cells) are only available as the product of a fertilized egg which has divided to some extent, this is, in his opinion, a human life (although it hasn't achieved birth yet). Again, according to religious dogma, it is immoral to for anyone who is NOT God terminate this life (or, in _my opinion_, potential life).

Therefore, he is imbuing both lives with the SAME value. It is immoral to value one over the other.

I am not in agreement with the position, but the position is logical given an understanding of the principles in play.

Your sentence makes no sense. Stem Cells come from embryos, which many believe is life. So you're question should be rephrased, "Why does Bush value human lives more than human lives?"

Any Christian worth his salt believes that as soon as sperm and ovum meet, life has been formed. So don't kill it!

Does that perspective make sense to you?

It is about money, fetal stem cells hold the promise of CURRING many tragic disease's one of them is diabetes's. The pharmaceutical company's profit from treating diabetes is in the billions every year and is going up as the incidence of the disease is going up. If you had a cure for these disease then these profits would diminish until gone. The president has pandered to the big corporations and the rich every since he was appointed to office and I am sure that this veto will reward him greatly. He is a criminal and should be removed from office.

THAT is a very good question but I can answer it. It's because Bush is ignorant...stem cells are not humanbeings like he claims, "We will be killing human beings if this bill is passed"...he's wrong! But he doesn't have a problem calling an unnecessary war and killing thousands of innocent people, does he! It's disgusting.

The bizarre Rapture Right believes that stem cells ARE human beings - they are human beings named cytoplast that have 150 cells and live in petri dishes.
