Yes. Aids was known about but nowhere near as widespread as today. Freddie seemed the kind of guy who didn't really worry about these things. Genius though.

It was known about but not as well and there was not much treatment for it. Gays weren't the only people getting aids at that time. Do some research if you really want to learn something.
