All of the sacrifices made by our brave veterans during WW2 were for the greater good.
They were all serving a purpose bigger then them self.
To over come the greatest evil the world had ever seen.
Yes it was worth it but not for the one man but for all they accomplished in saving him.
Though it was a work of fiction it was based on very similar actual events.
The next time you take something small for granted like getting a Pepsi from the fridge or taking a vacation, remember you have that freedom from overwhelming fascist oppression because of there sacrifice.

That's almost beside the point. The landing scene at the beginning when they are pinned down, and getting picked off one by one has to be one of the most exciting war scenes ever filmed.
At the end, Private Ryan said he lived a good life. But even he knew his was only one life and a lot of great men died trying to keep him alive.

Anytime we save a human life it is worth it. Even if the person never says thank you or is not helped by the saving, someone else watching is.
