I'm 34 weeks pregnant. I went to my dr. appt today and found out I lost 4 pounds in the last two weeks! Weird, huh? That means I have only gained 7 pounds so far.

Some more info: My belly is measuring "normal" and my blood pressure is 120/80...which is perfect. I was slightly overweight before I was pregnant (BMI=30). Since I've been pregnant, I only eat when I'm hungry.

Anyway, my dr. said not to worry, but I'd still like to hear from mothers/pregnant woman who have experienced something similar. Should I be worried? Should I increase my caloric intake a bit?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

No - don't sweat it! My nurse midwife told me that for overweight women (which I am) drinking enough water and taking the prenatal vitamins are the most important things! She said she wouldn't be concerned if I didn't gain any weight at all during the pregnancy! My doctor sternly warned me not to gain more than 15 pounds - with my first I gained 12 - so far I've lost 12 in this pregnancy (I'm 16 weeks).

Sounds like you're doing great! Best wishes!!!

I was about 60 pounds overweight when I got pregnant with my second child. I didn't gain any weight until I was almost 7 months. In the first trimester I actually lost about 15 pounds. My doctor told me that this was perfectly normal, and not to worry. I wouldn't worry about your weight loss, unless your doctor tells you to worry. If you lost a sizable amount of weight, then another trip to the doctor may be necessary.

My cousin was the same way. I gained 31 pounds with my first and 40 with my second. But my cousin actually lost weight, she was a big girl to begin with and was doing just fine. You should be eating several small meals in a day, not just eating when you are hungry. You need to make sure the baby is getting all the nutrients it needs, its not just about filling you up when you are hungry.

A fetus only needs a tiny amount of calories and you loosing weight, since you were overweight, is actually normal. The reason pregnant women always gain weight is because they crave food and thnk they "should be eating for two" which is essentially wrong. Just eat healthy and you and your baby will be ok.

I did this with my 4th pregnancy but usually you need to gain 15 pounds for a "healthy" pregnancy but as long as your belly is on target you should be fine...they should do an ultrasound soon to measure baby usually between 36 and 38 weeks. That will make you feel better about babies size.

You should be eating at least 3 times a day, not just when your hungry. Your babies health depends on it. When you start off overweight you sometimes do not gain as much as someone who was underweight. Worry about loosing weight after your baby comes out healthy and strong.
