an anime from back in the late 70's early 80's. has a single maned robot that connects like voltron, but the home base is a lighthouse, mobile base thats parts shoot out of is a tyronasoaurs rex. fighting alien life. has a brainy kid that later builds a mini version of the big guy. by being tricked by bad guys. the main girl is in love with the guy that is in the volton like mobile unit. the dino mostly travels under water. it was out back when ulyesses 31 was out. in one scene the guy and girl who likes him are in an endless tunnel that is a trap that is connected to a museum scene. i thought it was gaiking, but characters dont match and dino creature doesn't match. the robot mobile unit is controled by the characters in the head. that head connection to the body was either the dino head transformed or shot out of the mouth of the dino. also the arms came out of the upper claw like part of the dino. most of the series only had 1 votron like figter.

also i saw this Aime while stationed in Germany on a American channel that aired at the time. was told it may have been one not allowed to air in the state because of the way USA people alter the shows, (perfect example is sailermoon twisted from the original.)

If you got some time on your hand, I would suggest doing this to find that show that you're looking for:

First, go to http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=animelist and next to the word "year", click on the gray arrow/triangle that is pointing upwards. This will list the shows accordingly to the year that they were made in. Than, go through the list until you come across to the years in the late 1970s and click on each of the titles to see if any of them is the show that you're searching. Do this until you reach the shows that were created in the early 80s.

Sorry I can't be more of a help and I hope you find what you're looking for.

Good luck with finding out the name.
If you know what channel it was on then you can look up past broadcasts on the internet. I couldn't remember a show and so I looked up past tv show line ups and i figured out that it was called Mighty Max.
