can you pay with a credit card at a gas station?

if so, what companies accept them. i tried using my card at a couple of Arco stations and they told me they only accept cash and debit.

Of course!

That's the only thing I pay with...CC's. It's worked for me at Union 76, Chevron, Valero, Shell, and Mobil to name a few.

Stay away from ARCO. Like you said, they only accept cash or debit, and as is the case with the latter, they charge you a fee to do so - i think $1.50 per transaction if I recall.

Which is why Arco is cheaper than other stations - because they don't pay the credit card company fees. Go to almost any other station & they have accepted credit cards for a long time. I have an Exxon card from the 80's!

Chevron and Shell both take credit cards, probably 76 too. I'm not sure about any others but you can use your credit card for whatever at Chevron and Shell.
And for all those people that are talking $hit, You are stupid the guy Had a valid question Arco doesn't take credit cards. You would probably know that if your credit wasn't so bad that you can't get credit!

Arco is the only gas station who does not accept credit cards.
All others do accept credit cards.

Other gas stations accept it but Arco's do not. Also, Costco doesn't take many credit cards, just debit.

Some gas stations don't have a credit card machine, or the ability to accept credit cards because you have to sign up with that company to be able to accept them.. sucks doesn't it?

Most of the major gas stations accept credit cared....BP, Exxon, Texaco, Shell. I haven't come across any that doesn't. Some of the little mom & pop stations may only accept cash.

dont go to arco stations... every other gas station accepts any kind of credit card!!

Most do. I would suggest not going to these Arco stations anymore.
