We do burgers in ounces too, but I am in Canada.

Marketing technique. The higher the # itself the more you feel as if you are getting. The higher the price per unit the more reluctant you are to purchase. Hamburger is much lower priced per unit than steak is. Therefore, the people marketing the product are less hesistant to weigh it by pound. Where as steak is outrageuosly priced per unit so they weigh it in ounces. That is just my opinion.

We do this because burgers are more condenced meat and generally are heavier than steak. it would sound odd sayong a 32oz hamburger. and a 2 lb steak

Simple. Burger is cheaper than steak. That is why they are more stingy with it.

beacuse a double quarter pounder sounds good....and a 16oz prime rib sounds great.....if you say let me have a double 4 ouncer you would sound like a raving lunatic
