Ok, I'll admit to being a total newbie to Doctor Who. I'm love the idea of regeneration, BUT can the Doctor die? I'm curious.

Yes. They by default have 12 regenerations - so 13 lives. When they use them up, they die. Or if they completely destroyed and there's nothing left to regenerate.

The Master (an evil timelord) seems to be the exception, who has found ways to take on new regenerations.

The Master stole lives from others, how, I was never able to figure out, BUT...

In "The Five Doctors" the Time Lords on Gallifrey offered the Master a whole new set of regenerations (12 more), if he would risk his life to go into the Death Zone and help the Doctor.

YES they can once their allotted amount of lives is up and they are killed while on their last life! I think they get 12 lives or regenerations so when they hit #13 its bye bye. i am a big dr who fan and have watched all the old episodes of it! But i have yet to see the new series that has just been made! i would love to see it though! I live in the usa and its currently only avaliable in the UK>

Of course they can cos there is only one still alive. The rest died in the battle between the daleks and timelords.
