I find the registering for the car rental websites, they send u better deals than coupons can give you. Budget, hertz, alamo, enterprise, avis all email you on a regular basis with specials that are lower than the discount that they would give you with your AAA/Sams club or any other discount card......also use a travel search engine like kayak.com, yahootravel.com, sidestep.com to gain the best price in a pinch...after you have made your internet reservation, call the company and give them your AAA info so they can adjust your price even further (but u must make your own internet reservation first because that will be cheaper than the price they normally quote over the phone)

I only use Hertz (with my AAA membership) when it's the only option. You are right in that they are typically more expensive than Avis.

You can find coupons for Avis at: http://www.couponheaven.com/merchant.cfm/avis - it looks like you can get 10% off the rental.

try going to dennys they always have those travel magazines with coupons for avis and hotels across the usa
