Yes actually sophisticated computers and robots now have what you could almost call a microscopic spec of free will in dealing with and eliminating viruses quicker but that is about all. As for the second part to your question see thats the great part. Who knows the bible was not written by god himself and you have seen the way the human body is built and if you have ever been to a funeral you may have seen a body with no soul. We are shells for our soul , our spirit. I don't think people tend to think about this, which is what causes me to think alot. The answer to your question though can be summed up in one word, "INSTINCT." It was instinct that lead you to thinking of putting this post up and see if anyone could give you a response that was plausable. It's instinctive that people are going to think they know the answer. Also every opinion you get is instinctive there for by instinct you knew you were not going to get the same answer twice. We are born with it, its given to us. What do you think?

Sophisticated computers and robots think, alright. They can also talk, and and ask questions that no human can find an answer to. You must be kidding, you are not alive, you are a robot - possibly a good one. Would you care to join the us, dear?
This answers all your questions, doesn't it, fellow robohobo?

We think to ensure that we are alive. It is a skill that we have gained through evolution to set us aside from plants. The ability to think is born out of the need to take decisions. Making good decisions (from basics like: food is good; mother gives me food; stick with mother) is what ensures we survived wheras dimmer species perhaps did not.
Sophisticated (and simple) computers and robots are being taught to think (like don't crash into wall), but normally because we have given them "correct" decision in advance. Some computers are starting to learn stuff themselves. In an abstract way, yes they do think.
Are they alive? No. Being alive has a whole different set of criteria (things like breathing, ability to reproduce). "I think therefore I am" is a Descartes concept where he discusses that HE believes HE is alive based on the fact HE thinks HE is thinking. Certainly at this philiosophical level, no popularly-known robot has expressed these thoughts.

You don't! but take a friend with you and find a robot. Punch the robot in the mouth, then punch your friend in the mouth. Then ask them both what they think of your little scientific experiment.
I once had a lot of trouble with my ex wife whereas her laptop never said a word.
If you are worried that you might really be an advanced series of microchips take yourself back to the manufacturers and complain!

We think because if we don't we turn into Bible Bashers, with no ability to question what we are told is the truth!
I guess the same could be said for your Robot theory, thinkers are NOT robots Bible Bashers ARE!

We think because there is nothing better to do. We think because it how to fill the emptiness of boredom. We think because it hurts. We think because it helps us grow. We think because that is how we discover.
An electronic impulse is not a thought; a thought is something that requires at least a speck of creativity. I sure there are a few humans who do not truly think in the real sense of the word; therefore, they are no better than drones. Robots cannot think. Computers do not think. They have no creativity; they are simply analytical. They cannot think because they do not live.

Robots compute from logged in knowledge. They can't learn, or develop.

So far as we know, we can't make a computer think. It might happen in the distant future.
If you were a robot who could think, would it make any difference?

It all comes down to learning.
computers and robots cannot learn new stuff they can only do what they are programmed to do.
Humans can learn stuff.
The fact you were able to ask this question, and read the answers and conclude for yourself means you are thinking.

Your emotion is what lets you know your alive. Do you fear death, do you get angry. Do you get sad. If you do all of these things then you are alive. Robots do not get scared they just do what they are progamed to do.
