Are you talking about the Secret of NIHM?? I think he is a rat in that book

Assuming that you're referring to the fictional character from The Secret of NIMH, he's a rat. The only other literary character I can think of is Nicodemus from the Bible (you know, the Pharisee who met Jesus in the middle of the night and received His "born again" teaching in John 3), and he's very much human.
