I recently went to see Superman Returns and the film was ruined by a 3 year old kid talking, crying and jumping around in the row in front. What kid of parents would take their annoying brat to the cinema and not have to common decency to take them out if they start screaming and ruining it for the rest of us?

lack of a reliable babysitter

I do empathize, but I understand a parents view as well. The 3 year old very likely gets in for free, or at the most reduced rate certainly. A baby sitter may cost considerabely more, beyond just cost issues.

I do believe however, that a parent should consider the opinions and situations of others who also paid to see the movie, and be respectful enough to remove the child to the lobby if some problem arises.

Because more than likely the adult was the one who really wanted to see the movie and probably couldn't get a babysitter or something along those lines. I know, my ex g/f had a 4 year old heathen child who she took to a social group movie night and ruined it for everyone too, and then she even had the audacity to take this brat out to a big New Year's Eve celebration at midnight with HUGE amounts of people and a 4 year old who you could easily lose every time you turned around. I got so upset with her that I left, and didnt' even stay till midnight.

You know, I don't really know why they do that, but Superman Returns isn't really a grown-up movie. My sisters went to see Saw II and they said that a 5 year-old (at least) was sitting there with her father (I think) and watching it. Now that's a grown-up movie. And the reason they don't take them out is because they don't want to miss the movie. Instead, they entice them with snacks to shut them up. I know, I've seen it happen before. :D

these parents are novices and they usually do not drop their kids off at day cares or have baby-sitters where they would be less intrusive. Or possibly they were under the wrong impression that Superman Returns is kiddy like the animated version.

Parents nowadays do not want to get babysitters because there have been too many incidents of babysitters abusing children. Why they take children to movies that children would be too young to possibly enjoy, I don't know.
