I've taught for over 20 years and I've never been informed by law enforcement about the arrest of any student for any reason; however, I have read about such things in my local newspaper. I think the newspaper is the proper forum for crimes such as shoplifting.

I would agree with Mike S. I have never been informed of any legal problems that a student of mine has had. It really is none of my business if my student is a thief, or a saint. My job is to teach and to grade his/her papers and give them the grade they earned in my class, free from the bias that such information might create.

it is up to the court system. do the crime -do the time. if it's a first time then it may end up sealed by the court for no one to see again.
who do you think should TELL teachers? and why TEACHERS? and any one else?
just because some one does something wrong doesn't mean they should be condemned for it forever. teachers are hard enough on kids... why should "teacher's" be all paranoid around the kids they're trying to teach? or biased?
I think this question is a little strange....
I don't know the whole story or reason for your asking either...
