Where did this come from? I mean FYROM is a new country and they are using the name Macedonia as their own! Isn’t this wrong?

The answer is simple! The state of FYROM is actually called Makedonija (Slav-Macedonia)! The trick they do is to use as international name the Greek name "Macedonia"!
United Nations and European Union has forced the state of Makedonija to negotiate with Greece in order to reach to an acceptable name for international use { For those who don’t know Republika Makedonja is officially translated by UN (and officially recognized by UN and European Union) as Former Ygoslavic Republick of Macedonia (FYROM).}
A lot of people actually confuse the 2 regions (real Macedonia in Greece and Slavic-Macedonia) and a lot don't even know that real Macedonia is in Greece.
(The ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia or Macedon as we all know is a Greek region (in proper Greek “Mακεδονία”) it is actually one of the biggest regions of Greece and it has played a most significant part in Greek history!
The real Macedonia in Greece was the birth place of Alexander the Great!
Alexander created a gigantic Greek empire and he is responsible for the spreading of Greek culture and language around the world! )
There are 3 millions Greeks who call themselves real Macedonians and they are heavily insulted when someone else use as an international name the Greek name Macedonia!
(How would you think the real New Yorkers will react if a new country appeared in the world using the name “republic of New York”??)
The really scary think is some Slav-Macedonians, because they use as international name the Greek name Macedonia, actually believe that they have connection with real Greek Macedonia and Greek Alexander the great!
Thank god the Slav-Macedonian government is against those fanatics and has clearly stated that their state is a Slavic state with no connection with the Greek Macedonia and Alexander!
The few fanatics seem to ignore those statements therefore I will post them here in order to protect the reputation of Slavic-Macedonia (Slavic republic of Macedonia) :{
On 22 January 1999, Ambassador of the FYROM (Slavic –Macedonia) to USA, Ljubica Achevska gave a speech on the present situation in the Balkans. In answering questions at the end of her speech Mrs. Acevshka tried to stoped the voices of the fanatics: "We do not claim to be descendants of Alexander the Great … Greece is Macedonia’s second largest trading partner, and its number one investor. Instead of opting for war, we have chosen the mediation of the United Nations, with talks on the ambassadorial level under Mr. Vance and Mr. Nemitz." In reply to another question about the ethnic origin of the people of FYROM, Ambassador Achevska stated that "we are Slavs and we speak a Slav language”.
Even the first president of FYROM (Slav-Macedonia) Kiro Glikorov tried in various occasions to stop the few fanatics from their unhistorical and insulting statements : “We are Slavs who came to this area in the sixth century ... we are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians" (Foreign Information Service Daily Report, Eastern Europe, February 26, 1992, p. 35). And again Mr Gligorov declared: "We are Macedonians but we are Slav Macedonians. That's who we are! We have no connection to Alexander the Greek and his Macedonia… Our ancestors came here in the 5th and 6th century" (Toronto Star, March 15, 1992).
And of course more members of the Slav-Macedonian government clearly stated the official government position: On 24 February 1999, in an interview with the Ottawa Citizen, Gyordan Veselinov, FYROM'S Ambassador to Canada, admitted, "We are not related to the northern Greeks who produced leaders like Philip and Alexander the Great. We are a Slav people and our language is closely related to Bulgarian." He also commented, “There is some confusion about the identity of the people of my country".
Moreover, the Foreign Minister of the FYROM, Slobodan Casule, in an interview to Utrinski Vesnik of Skopje on December 29, 2001, said that he mentioned to the Foreign Minister of Bulgaria, Solomon Pasi, that they "belong to the same Slav people.” }
So you see there are actually 2 regions called Macedonia! The real one which is in Greece and it is the birth place of Alexander the Great!
And a Slavic state which is called Makedonija but is using as an international name the Greek name Macedonia! No relation though!
Try to ignore the few fanatics of Slav-Macedonia who keep insulting the Greeks. After all they damage their own country!
(At every map that existed in the world Macedonia was always either an ancient Greek state (part of Greece)! Or a Roman province and later a Greek Byzantine province and later part of the Ottoman Empire! It was never a separate state from Greece and only in recent years a small Slavic state appeared which is called Makedonija!!)

Fyrom

a new born country
with no history at all
nothing to be proud of..

so

they decided to stole other countries history

that is a pathetic effort to gain glory from a nation that is unique

They would like to be Greeks

but, unfortunately my dear Fyrom-ers

if you want to be called Macedonia, then you must state subordination to Greece
cause Macedonia is a part of Greece!

The accronym FYROM is a toy for a kid (guess who?) and if Makedonija isn't Macedonia, than Makedonia isn't Macedonia, too.
Well, we can read also Macedoine, Mazedonien,etc. Pitty, but some Greeks cannot accept the fact the whole Macedonia is a geographic region. Greek Government named their north region of the state with name Makedonia since '70-es last century, before it was the Region of Northern Greece. How is it possible?
Simply, just because existing of the earlier Socialist Republic of Macedonia (today Republic of Macedonia) and there was potential problem with Macedonian minority inthere. All we know that there wasn't full democracy in Greece early years after WWII (Metaxas regime seemed to be like many Southamerican ones)and everything wrong was possible in those years.Not to forget, Macedonians in Greece fought together with fighters from Greek Communist Party.Since it lost the Civil war, Macedonians were punnished afterwards.Today, many Greeks are speaking of brainwashing, but cannot see their brainwashing, too. It is very dissapointing how much hate and ignorance we all can see here and elsewhere. And on contrary, Macedonians do not even disslike Greek people. Think of it !!!

Well, Macedonia is Greece, without Macedonia there is no Greece! Like we are not the same without our bodies or brain!
Of course, since there are many enemies of Greece, there is pressure to redirect the people into false in order to govern the area and the world. As it is known, the only guidance for the progress for humanity is the Greek principles.

In all Greece there are only ten people who use a coarse language, and they are all members here, shame of you. First of all between the terms: Modern Greeks and Ancient Greeks there is a time of 3000 years. All World is proud of the Ancient Greeks, not of the Modern Greeks. According to you ten here, the Greeks were never mixed last 3000 years? Why did you need to leave the school after finishing grade two?
To answer the question, if you read history books not written by Greeks, you will find out why. Your Government wouldn't write about the ethnic cleansing during the Civil War in Greece. Many Macedonians were killed by the Greek Army. There are many refugees from the war who remember and talk what was happening.

Because it isn't. There is a region called Macedonia in Greece, but, for example, it's the same thing as with Baranya (part of Panonia), which exists as part of Hungary and part of Croatia and nobody has a problem with that.
Macedonia as a country does not have anything to do with Greece. They are entirely different peoples, with entirely different languages and culture. Macedonians are Slav people. Greeks aren't. Only thing they share is Orthodox Christianity (together with Russians, Serbs, Romanians and many other nations).
My advice to you is to read more and gather informations before asking an entirely uneducated questions.

FYROM is an accronym of Former Yugoslav Republic. Yugoslavia was an amalgamation of several 'states' one of which is macedonia (if you look at maps pre 1st world war you will see Macedonia exsisted then.) The only people who had a problem with this was the Greeks, who see the word macedonia used to describe an area of land as their own.

People are guided by brainwashing!
Rulers, in order to continue ruling and getting more power, they invent ways to maintain their reining!
Thus, as a part of the middle Eastern problem, the superpowers of west and east decided to screw the center (Balkans and Middle East) to use it as a gray area, where they would use their politics, weapons, etc.!
Thus, the superpowers decided to split the countries, like they did to the Ottoman Empire, 100 years ago and now Palestine, Yugoslavia, etc.!
So, brainwashing is the major reason that there are people believing Macedonia is not Greece!

That's because they're not greek. They're macedonians. Remember how Philip and Alexander overrun the greeks. That was back then. But history has been a turmoil of events in those places, always disputed by the Ottomans, the Austrians, the Magyars, and the Greeks. Macedonia was included in the Yugoslavia mix after WWII, and until the nationalist colapse of the country in the mid 90's could claim their independence again.

The answer is very simple. If Alexander was Macedonian, then there will be born new Alexander in new Macedonia who will made the new history.
I am such Aleksandar, the chosen one. And I am very insulted that I have to wait on border to go on holiday.
This is my kingdom and in it is called Macedonia. I announce that I am king of Macedonia.
It would be wise for you Greeks, to accept my mercy. Do not arouse my anger, because I am chosen one.

Hey, last time I checked, "macedonia" doesn't sound anything like "greece" or "helles." And what difference does it make?
