Its from cooking, esp curries. my whole house stinks like a take away. I've tried febreeze and lots of carpet cleaners and de-odourisers from tesco, nothing seems to work. I dont have enough ventilation, but i try to leave the windows open all day.

Buy febreeze and spray them to neutralise the odour. Depends on the 'odour' though.

In regards to your curtains, wash them. Before you do this soak them in the sink with lemon juice in for about an hour. Hour per curtain. Put them in the wash with plenty of softener if they will take to that. (see label) Once they are washed dry them on line and then spray them with fabric and room freshener. Tesco do a lovely fragrance lavender and its gorgeous and the smell last for ages. With the carpet I'm unsure as i have wooden flooring apart from on the stairs. You can hire a carpet cleaner and then spray it with fabric spray. Good luck. (owner of how clean is your house book) xxxx

try leaving a normal candle alight whenever you are about so as not to leave it unattended for hours (safety) this has worked for me as I am a smoker and it somehow eats the odour left by the tobacco/smoke obviously leave it or several where the smell is worst.

good luck

you could also try a lemon which should be cut in half and left on a plate or saucer in the room

I would try Arm & Hammer Carpet Freshner, in the aerosol spray. They have great smells, I have used it on a lot of areas in my home. It foams up, and then disappears. You do not vacuum it up, you just leave it. It is supposed to be for just carpets, but I've used it on furniture too, instant smell good! Try on Fabric in a descreet spot to make sure it won't fade.

febreeze is very good, or any other upholstery fresener, nutroldole is very good i use it to spinkle on my carpets , leave for a while and then hoover it, you can also get sachets for inside your hoover, and they do airfresheners etc in the nutrodole range, i swear by it, its great make, as my husband smokes and i dont , i tend to notice it more and once ive used this it really makes a differenece.

I found that if you boil some water then put in a Cinnamon stick and orange slices and let it simmer this helps. it not only makes you house smell delightful but it takes away the odor. a pleasant smelling candle will work as well too.

A bucket of water with common vinegar should do the trick.
Failing that....A bucket of water with "Jeyes Fluid"!
Failing both.....A Professional Carpet-Cleaning Company.

Good luck
