Most states have laws that do not allow you to fire an employee just because they filed a claim. If you do, then the employee may have an additional claim outside of workers comp. You must have an unrelated reason for the termination. There is not a "time limit". Time is not a relevant consideration.

Why would you fire the employee? Did the Work Comp claim have anything to do with the employee not following safety rules? You can fire the employee imediately, but you still have to pay the work comp.
