a sound is nothing more than a vibration that is detected and then interpreted by passing through your eardrum. Therefore, if it doesn't pass through an eardrum than it is nothing more than a vibration... If a deaf person were standing in the forest when the tree fell he would feel the vibration but of course wouldn't hear a sound. So no, a tree falling (or anything else for that matter) does NOT make a sound unless there is someone there to interpret it as such. It does however make a vibration.

Of course it does. You don't have to be present for things to make sounds., A wave makes a sound crashing onto the beach in Canada. A car muffler in Australia makes a sound when the car speeds by. There are numerous examples but these will suffice, I think
