No certain amount of time. Just let him/her do the normal. Wake when hungry and have a little play time. At one month old you probably want to rest to, so you nap when baby naps. Babies do a lot of sleeping throughout their first year and it's fine. Congrats and good luck :)

Every baby is different, but I have a 4 week old baby and he can stay awake for about 1.5-2 hours at a time. However, babies at this age need about 16 1/2 hours of sleep per day. The other 8 hours (more or less) can be spaced out from 10 minutes of wake time to 3 hours of wake time. As long as the baby is gaining adequate weight and eating well there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Believe me, baby will be awake all the time soon enough!
Congrats and Good luck!

I asked the same thing with my 5 week olds Doctor and he said there really is not a set amount but that most sleep from 16 to 18 hours a day and every 3-4 hours but mine has gone 8 hours with just two 15 to 20 min naps!

I'm not a doctor but I am a mom and I know that babies sleep a lot at that age. They sleep more than they are awake. I wouldn't be surprised if they were only awake a couple hours out of the day. Not 100% sure of that though.
